Everything the ego doesn't want

Salvation is the happy dream whereas Awakening ("Enlightenment") is the end of all dreams, happy or otherwise. There is nothing transcendent about this and to the vestigial tail (tale) of an ego, that one who believed spirituality was the highest, that spirituality would save it, that spirituality would one day render it exalted and special, the letdown is of titanic proportion. This is a fate worse than merely going down with the ship, which is what the ego actually wants. This is falling overboard in the middle of the night, unbeknownst to anyone, and watching the only light within a thousand miles slowly pull away and disappear into darkness as you tread water. Awakening is everything the ego doesn't want.
